Kyle Muir — Aviation Technology

Independent Aviation Technology Consulting

Aviation Technology Built Around Real Pilots.

I help aviation teams evaluate training devices, develop pilot-centered products, and understand aircraft systems from the seat where decisions actually get made. Commercial pilot and instructor with a product and engineering background — translating cockpit reality into technology that works.

Consulting Services

Engagements are scoped to the problem — a focused evaluation, an embedded advisory period, or ongoing input across a development cycle.

Training-Device & Simulator Evaluation

Objective evaluation of ATDs, BATDs/AATDs, and flight simulators against how pilots actually train. Fidelity, task-transfer, instructor usability, and curriculum fit — assessed from the left seat, not a spec sheet.

Pilot-Centered Product Development

Translate cockpit reality into product requirements. I help teams design avionics, EFBs, and training tools around real pilot workflow, workload, and decision-making — reducing friction before it reaches the flight line.

Aircraft Systems & Technology Review

Hands-on perspective on aircraft systems, automation, and integration across single-engine, high-performance, and multi-engine platforms. Where technology helps the pilot, where it adds load, and what to fix.

Usability & Human-Factors Consulting

Structured usability input grounded in instruction and flight experience. I pressure-test interfaces, procedures, and documentation the way a working CFI and line pilot would — before customers do.

Kyle Muir — CFI, CFII, MEI

I'm Kyle Muir — an independent flight instructor and aviation consultant based in Salt Lake City. I hold Commercial Pilot certificates (ASEL/AMEL, Instrument) and instructor ratings as a CFI, CFII, and MEI, with roughly 1,108.7 hours across single-engine, high-performance, and multi-engine aircraft.

Alongside the cockpit, I bring a product and engineering background. That combination is the whole point: I can sit in the seat, fly the device or the aircraft, and then speak the language of the team building it. The result is technology shaped by how pilots actually train, decide, and operate — not by assumptions.

I work independently and vendor-neutral. No academy, no fleet agenda, no employee framing — just direct, honest evaluation and deliverables you can use.

Why work with me

  • A working pilot in the room, not just an analyst
  • Engineering and product background paired with real cockpit time
  • Independent and vendor-neutral — no fleet or school agenda
  • Direct, written deliverables you can act on

Instruction availability

Independent flight instruction is available on a limited basis for clients who want hands-on training alongside a project — including instruction in a client's own aircraft. Ask about current availability.
